Annual Fund
Like the classes, programs and outreach that strive to encompass every family in any situation, the annual fund is an analogy for Forty Carrots itself: everyone is welcome. From $5 to $10,000, all donations are gladlly accepted and will be used to benefit each and every aspect of the organization.
Dear Friends,
Supported, informed, confident, prepared, empowered, relieved…these are words that describe “snapshots” from my Forty Carrots Family Album. Once you see Forty Carrots Family Center through my eyes – as a parenting educator and a preschool parent – I hope you will join me in supporting its important work through The Annual Fund.
Meet a 34 year-old mother of a two-month old, colicky baby who attends a class at Forty Carrots. She is struggling both physically and emotionally because of the baby‘s constant crying. She can’t seem to help the baby; her husband yells, criticizes, and blames. Once other participants share techniques that have worked for them, this mother feels supported.
Meet a 15 year-old father of a four-week-old infant who participates in Forty Carrots classes through his high school. As he plays with his son, he pulls the newborn up to a standing position by the wrists. Once the father learns to hold his newborn under the arms so his baby’s head and neck are supported, this father feels informed.
Meet a 45 year-old father of four children ranging from ages 3 to 15 who attends an evening class at Forty Carrots. He travels a great deal for his job and can hardly cope with pressures from the job and the stress of raising children who he believes are disrespecting him. Once this father learns limit-setting skills such as giving choices and using logical consequences, the power struggles decrease, and he feels confident.
Meet a 27 year-old mother who is addicted to alcohol and pills and resides in a recovery program where she attends Forty Carrots parenting classes. She wants to drink and use again so badly it is painful, but she wants to be sober for her daughter. She feels terrified and inexperienced in her new role as mother. Once she and her classmates learn to use music and reading as a means of connecting with their babies and making them smarter, she feels prepared.
Meet a 43 year-old mother who attends a Forty Carrots Partners in Play class at the library. She had stopped going to other programs because of the intensity of her little girl’s temper tantrums. Once the mother learns to validate her daughter’s feelings while still setting limits on her behavior, the mother feels empowered.
Meet a 66 year-old grandmother who watches her grandson while her son and daughter-in-law are at work. Her grandson does not talk, play, or seem interested in other children or adults. Once the grandmother learns strategies to support her grandson’s slow-to-warm temperament, she feels relieved to see her grandson help another child build a tower.
Now meet a little girl whose eyes light up when you mention preschool. She is encouraged daily to touch, hear, see, smell, and taste so that she can learn. Her four-year-old brain is challenged to think, invent, and problem solve. This is my daughter, Mallory, and this is her third and final year at The Preschool at Forty Carrots Family Center.
My Forty Carrots Family Album demonstrates that Forty Carrots embraces families from all walks of life without judgment regardless of age, situation, gender, race, and socioeconomic status, in order to strengthen families. Perhaps the obstacles illustrated in my “snapshots” are happening or have happened to your neighbor, your daughter, your aunt, your sister, your husband, your uncle, your colleague, your niece, your son, your grandchild or you.
Forty Carrots Family Center helps more than 2,000 families each year feel supported, informed, confident, prepared, empowered, and relieved. Please join me in giving back to the place that has given so much to the families who make up our community.
