Growing A Better Community

Forty Carrots Family Center's Capital Campaign is an investment in our children and in our community, because good parenting lasts forever.

Since 1993, Forty Carrots has served thousands of families in the Sarasota community giving these families both roots and wings through a combination of the highest quality early childhood and parenting education. Through community support and generosity the Board of Trustees voted to purchase our building at 1500 So. Tuttle Avenue in 2009. We're here to stay. Now begins the important second phase of our campaign to secure the future of Forty Carrots and the families we serve.

Roots and Wings

Of the 2,000 families served annually, 88% receive free parenting education classes. Many of these families are facing life challenges that make the already complex job of raising children even more difficult. They are teen parents, moms who are recovering from addictions, and incarcerated parents. They are parents who are raising children in poverty and parents who are wrestling with their own childhood experiences with violence or sexual abuse.

Other families who participate in Forty Carrots programs attend classes because they want to be the best parents they can be and they recognize that education and support can help them do just that.

Under optimal circumstances, parenting education provides parents with the necessary information and skills to do the best possible job raising their children. In more extreme cases, it prevents child abuse. Either way, Forty Carrots parenting education programs are a critical component of a comprehensive community approach to supporting all families to insure optimal child outcomes.

A Covenant For The Future

Forty Carrots Family Center is located at 1500 South Tuttle Avenue. Prior to the purchase, the property was owned by The Janet & Stanley Kane Foundation. For 15 years, the Foundation most generously granted Forty Carrots Family Center over $2,000,000 in free rent. Forty Carrots' Board of Directors voted to launch a capital campaign to purchase the building and property. To insure that the building will be long-lasting, an additional $250,000 will be raised for a building reserve to fund maintenance and repairs. The Kane Foundation's generosity will continue to be felt as the proceeds from the sale are donated to other worthwhile charitable organizations.

We Are Here to Stay

Forty Carrots Family Center helps families from North Port to north Sarasota create a more successful future for our community's children. A permanent home for this vital community agency will insure that families will be able to count on Forty Carrots to help them raise responsible, respectful young people for years to come.

How You Can Help

Each selected Naming Opportunity will be honored with personalized signage, a complimentary 6"x 8" tile on the Wall of Tiles displayed in the Forty Carrots Family Center lobby, and a personalized brick on the bell tower.

ADOPTED $125,000 The Family Room at Forty Carrots Family Center. This is a gathering place where children connect with children, children connect with parents, and families connect with families. The Family Room is the heart of the center, where preschool classes come together for assembly, parents read to their little ones, and families congregate to share tools, information, and support for building strong families and a stronger community.

ADOPTED $125,000 The Parenting Center at Forty Carrots Family Center. Imagine a place where babies play safely, dads can express their fears about parenting, moms can get needed advice on all matters, and highly trained parenting educators facilitate valuable discussions. It is in this room where parents chart the course for the family they want to become. [Adopted.]

$75,000 (One playgroud adopted, one available) The Playgrounds at Forty Carrots Family Center. Whether experiencing the thrill of a swing, the proud feeling of mastering a trike or practicing social skills that will serve a child forever, much is learned about life on the playground. And while children have lots of free time to explore and play, the Forty Carrots playgrounds are designed as laboratories for opportunities to explore science, math and even art.

$50,000 (All six classrooms adopted) The Classrooms at Forty Carrots Family Center. Early childhood educators know that preschool children are concrete thinkers and need to touch, hear, see, smell, taste and move in order to understand their world. In a warm, creative, fun-filled environment the classrooms at Forty Carrots spark young children's curiosity, independence, and natural yearning for knowledge.

*May be paid over five years

"Through the Capital Campaign's naming opportunities, the leaders in the community will be able to have their names attached to a great organization. And the building's purchase price goes to the Janet & Stanley Kane Foundation - a charitable vehicle for giving back to the community."
